Nälkäteatteri

THEATRE

Nälkäteatteri is a touring theatre founded by Juha Hurme in 1998. Its main repertoire consists of dramatizations of Volter Kilpi's novels and of Aleksis Kivi's plays. At the moment the theatre's repertoire has altogether nine Volter Kilpi performances and six Aleksis Kivi performances. The theatre also produces e.g. performances for children as well as concerts. Within Nälkäteatteri there also functions another theatre group named Toisissa tiloissa, which is a cell put together by Esa Kirkkopelto and concentrating on experimental performing art. The theatre's main annual events are the Volter Kilpi Literary week in Kustavi in the summertime, a weekend in June in the Taaborinvuori in Nurmijärvi as well as the Finnish Independence Day's reception at the Helsingin Ylioppilasteatteri. In addition to this the company makes visits and produces customized performances.
